An essay is a piece of writing which is often written from the writer's personal point of view. The essay may consist of a number of elements. An essay is a short piece of writing by a student as a part of a course of study or a short piece of writing on a particular subject, written in order to be published, or it means an attempt to write something. But in general, it is a composition made up of a paragraph to deal with a single topic. These paragraphs make a connected logical reading as an essay. Therefore, an essay is a piece of composition on a theme or a topic. It is always self-contained having its beginning, middle and end. It is usually subjective in nature, and it has normally written in a prose form.

    Types of Essay

    a. Descriptive, impersonal and direct.
    b. Informative or personal essay or personal writing

    An essay can be subjective or objective. Subjective essay writing expresses the writer's opinion, feelings, and his or her personal views on a topic. An objective essay gives supreme importance to the object or the topic.

    Generally, these are the major types of essays:
    1. Descriptive
    2. Narrative
    3. Reflexive
    4. Imaginative
    5. Expository

    1. Descriptive Essay describe animals, things, persons, places, minerals, buildings or machines and need a vast and clear knowledge of the place or thing.

    3. Reflective Essay deal with the abstract topics such as habits, feelings, qualities and social topics. They are reflections or thoughts on some abstract topics. They require the ability to analyze a socio-economic, political, religious, philosophical etc, situation.

    4. Imaginative Essay are written with the deep imagination on subjects in which the writer has actually never involved or experienced.

    5. Expository Essay are expositions or explanations of subjects like scientific, literary, institutional, etc.

    6. Descriptive Narrative rely on both description and narration of the topics of the essays.

    How to write an Essay | Essay Writing Steps:-

    1. Select the topic of your essay.
    2. Choose the central idea, or thesis the theme of your essay.
    3. Outline your essay into introductory, body and summary paragraphs.
    4. The introductory  paragraph begins with an interest, and weight.
    5. After the first sentence and to support.
    6. Use one sentence to introduce everybody paragraph to follow.
    7. Finish the introductory paragraph with a short summary or goal statement.
    8. In each of the body paragraphs the ideas first presented in the introductory paragraph are developed by giving supporting details, data, examples etc.
    9. Develop your body paragraphs by giving detailed information and examples related to the theme you   are writing on.
    10. Body paragraphs should develop the central idea and finish with a summary of that idea. There should be at least two examples of facts in each body paragraph to support the central idea. 
    11. The summary paragraph summarizes your essay and is often  reverse of the introductory paragraph.
    12. Begin the summary paragraph by quickly restating the principal ideas of your body paragraphs.
    13. The second last sentence should restate your basic thesis of the essay.
    14. Your final statement can be the summary and your own view about the topic of what you have expressed before in the essay.

    Parts of an Essay

    An essay has three parts: beginning, middle, and end. These three parts are interrelated to make the essay complete. They are simply discussed as below:

    Introduction or the beginning of an Essay

    The introduction is the first part of an essay. It simply introduces the subject by giving a general introduction to the topic. The introduction may include a definition, a proverb, a quotation, or general statements. The introduction should be short, clear, simple, complete, and impressive or effective to give the exact accounts of the subject or topic. It is a single paragraph. That is why, it is short and compact, precise and concise.

    Body or Middle Part of an Essay

    The body or Middle part of an essay is the most important part. In this part, the writer describes the subject matter. Illustrations, descriptions, elaborations or supplementary details related to the central idea or theme should be given after the introduction. It contains appropriate facts, anecdotes, figures, examples, logic, etc that are needed to clarify the theme. In this part, coherence should be well maintained because the description should follow the particular order to the requirement.
    There can be more than one paragraph in this part. The main heading can be devided into sub-headings. Only one theme should be explained in one paragraph.

    Conclusion or the ending/final part

    As the introduction should arouse interest the conclusion should satisfy it. An effective and satisfying end to an essay as important as an attractive beginning. An abrupt or feeble ending may spoil the whole effect of the essay. The conclusion should express the summing up of the arguments and logic. The conclusion paragraph should be short, sweet and impressive.

    How to Write an Essay ??

    An essay is written systematically while practicing writing. There are some steps to be followed although examinees cannot follow all of them in the exams. At least, it is advisable to guide the learners to arrange the points in order. The major three steps are gathering ideas, organizing them and writing the essay as a first draft. Then it can be finalised as a proper essay.

    Gathering ideas

    All the points to be gathered in the essay are to be collected. They may appear zigzag.

    Organizing ideas

    The ideas collected are to be arranged systematically one after another. Each central idea is to be supported by the details after it. Ideas here are organized considering the introduction, the body and the conclusion.

    Writing the essay

    When the ideas are organized, the essay is to be written systematically. It is to be borne in the mind that each paragraph should have a central idea followed by supporting details.
