Dasun Shanaka plays the flick shot

Despite captain Dasun Shanaka's quick-fire 47, Deepak Hooda's power-hitting 41*, debutant Shivam Mavi's outstanding debut four-wickets, and Axar Patel's magnificent 31* helped India pull off a thrilling 2-run victory over Asia Cup Champions Sri Lanka and take a 1-0 lead in the first T20I.

India scored 162-5 in 20 overs, with Deepak Hooda scoring the most with an unbeaten 41 off 23 deliveries.

Ishan Kishan scored 37 off 29 balls, including three fours and two sixes, Axar Patel hit an unbeaten 31 off 20 balls, including three fours and a six, and Hardik Pandya scored 29 off 27 balls, including four fours.

Dhananjaya de Silva, Wanindu Hasaranga, Chamika Karunaratne, Maheesh Theekshana, and Dilshan Madushanka were all among Sri Lanka's top bowlers, each of whom claimed one wicket.

Sri Lanka scored 160 for all-out in exactly 20 overs, with Dasun Shanaka scoring the most with a 45 off 27 balls that included three sixes and three fours and a strike rate of 166.66.

Shivam Mavi, who made his T20I debut, was the best bowler for India, with 4-wickets for 22 runs. Umran Malik and Harshal Patel both grabbed 2-wickets.

With a strike rate of 178.26 and an undefeated 41 off just 23 balls, including four sixes and a four, Deepak Hooda was named Player of the Match.
